Winners

Justify got an easy (he made it look easy) win at the 144th Kentucky Derby which netted $1.4 million is prize money to his jockey (the oldest in the field at 52) which will be split between him,the trainer and the owner.  Of course Justify wasn't the only winner of the day a very lucky woman in Texas bet $18 on Justify and will take home $1.2 million and she didn't even have to get wet or muddy,so who was the big winner?

Questions

I kind of got high centered today on a story about a Colorado woman heating urine in a 7-Eleven microwave causing it to explode and ruin the microwave. The first thing I wanted to know is why urine would explode in a microwave and so far haven't found a reason but did find another incident where the urine was put in a microwave in a hand warmer and exploded which seems likely to happen since hand warmers contain some iron. Obviously the woman was up to something nefarious as she went a short distance from the store to a clinic for a work physical. She was charged $500 for the damage to the microwave which seems steep for the generic type of microwaves I've seen in similar surroundings but from the mess and remaining smell I don't dispute the charges. The next question I had is in states where marijuana is legalized would that showing up in a urine test still matter? I'm guessing it would depend on the type of work a person was applying for.
Angelique Sanchez, 26, was cited Thursday for allegedly microwaving a urine sample at local store, damaging the appliance in an explosion, authorities said.

We All Scream!

We're all entitled to our differences however when it comes to ice cream there should be some exceptions. The Japanese seem to have the market cornered when it comes to strange ice cream flavors, really why spoil ice cream with flavors like fish, squid ink or eel? Apparently Windy Brow Farms (Cow Brow brand ice cream) in New Jersey is also exercising their creativity with their most recently added flavor Taylor Ham and French Toast though they tend to offer other unique seasonal favorites like Baked Apple and Goat Cheese,Maple Bacon and Caramel Cider Donut, not to mention ones that don't make it to the menu such as Black Truffle Honey and Chili flavor. I'll stick to Tillamook Vanilla, thanks anyway.

Finders Keepers?

A janitor at Incheon International Airport in South Korea may be able to keep the seven gold bars worth $325 million he found while emptying a trash bin. The bars had been wrapped in newspaper and are believed to belong to a Korean man who has yet to come forward to claim them. Investigators think the gold was ditched because the man was afraid to go through customs with them. I'm not sure how they would know who the rightful owner was should someone come forward but if no one does the janitor gets to keep the entire amount and if someone does claim the gold the janitor would still receive 5-20% of the value, the only catch is it the gold is linked to criminal activity then the man would get nothing for his discovery however he would always have a good story to tell!

Deep Pockets

Pockets are about all there is to these extreme cutout jeans, but they do seem to be really nice pockets. For a mere $168 you can order a pair from Carmar a high end online store. They describe the jeans (and I am using the term jeans loosely) as "relax fit" jeans consisting of thin strips of denim roughly in the shape of a pair of pants, with fabric removed from the thigh and lower leg area on both the front and back of the pants. What I see here is a safety issue with those thin strips of cloth just waiting to snag on a passing object,oh and of course the obvious problem of walking around without anything substantial below the waist.

Are You Lonely Tonight?

Did you know that the UK recently developed a new position,Minister of Loneliness? According to what I've been reading the epidemic is far reaching even though communication is far easier today than it ever was in the past many countries are experiencing the problem. In the UK it is estimated that 9 million people are lonely,in the US the estimate is around 40%. Loneliness is considered a health risk as it relates to several physical symptoms, blood pressure, sleep disturbances, substance abuse, lack of activity, depression, and suicide to name the most common. I understand we all cope with things differently but I'm alone at least 90% of the time but I seldom feel lonely in fact I enjoy my solitude.

Who Knew?

It is mostly thought that the month of May was named after the goddess Maia however there was a Greek Maia and a Roman Maia so it could have been either one,but just to muddy the water there is also a belief that the month was named for the Latin word maiores which means elders in contrast to the month of June which means youth from the Latin word iuniores. I'll let everyone decide on their own personal favorite.
