Moral to the Madness

If there was ever a time not to be rude it would be when you are going to be trapped with those same people for several hours, which is why it is hard to fathom some of the obnoxious behavior that occurs on flights. The latest example is a woman who decided it would be fine to flip her long hair over the seat without considering the person in the row behind her. I'm not sure what the reasoning was behind her move but it couldn't have been for comfort. Then of course someone had to document it as everything everywhere is these days, though in this case it shed some wisdom on the dilemma. A person responded to the picture saying,"Why don't you put your phone down and have a reasonable conversation with the woman?" Amen to that! When all else fails talk to someone to work out the problem instead of splashing it across the internet.

Harmless?

Today's post could go under several headings, odd items for sale, fetishes, and many, many more as you will see. A London reporter had heard about people selling dirty underwear on Facebook and after a particularly grueling day at work and a 5 km run after work decided to sell her dirty, mismatched, holy socks online for research purposes. She listed the socks on eight Facebook sales and within 15 minutes 5 men had messaged her not only wanting the socks for $6.25 but requesting other worn items. She called it a night and by morning there were 17 more messages and she finally settled on a man willing to pay double. I remember doing a post about a similar occurrence a while back and though I suppose it's a harmless hobby it still strikes me as creepy especially when the soiled items belong to a stranger, though I guess no harm is being done.

Heavy Knitting

A knitting/heavy metal first took place yesterday in Finland, the Heavy Metal Knitting World Championships. Finland is known for founding many quirky events and has the highest number of heavy metal bands per capita which comes out to around 50 per 100,000. Some of the participants included Woolfumes,Bunny Bandit and 9 Inch Needles to name a few. The object of the competition is to knit while dancing to the music and I believe the knitter who manages to knit the most and show off their knitting skills to go with the music wins. This years winner was Giga Body Metal with a five person team featuring two Sumo wrestlers and a man dressed in a Japanese kimono.

Just the Facts

Today's post is a humorous look at animal myths, such as the old cow tipping stories. Cows rarely sleep standing up and even if you happened to catch one asleep on its feet the only way it could be tipped is if its feet were bound and it would still take around five people to tip it. The second one to examine is the old porcupines can shoot their quills great distances, when in fact contact is the only way to end up quilled. It seems like that belief may have come from a cartoon? Speaking of cartoons the next myth has been featured in many cartoons and that belief is that possums sleep hanging from their tails. Though their tails are prehensile and useful for many other purposes they are not made to support the weight of the animal.
Slide 1 of 21: Everyone knows someone—or knows someone who knows someone—who's tipped over a cow. (Bonus points if said tipping tale involved a night of heavy drinking.) Thing is, all of those yarn-weavers are unwittingly peddling one of the greatest urban—err, rural—legends of all time. Fact: It's impossible for a human being to push over a dairy cow. The laws of physics will not allow it.But cow tipping isn't the only major animal myth that's been widely propagated over the years. Dogs only see in black-and-white? Owls can turn their heads a full 360 degrees? Elephant trunks are basically giant straws? Yeah, it's all totally bunk. Read on for the proof. And for more trivia that will totally upend your world, check out these 100 Mind-Blowing Facts We Bet You Didn't Know!
Slide 2 of 21: According to one widely reported study conducted at the University of British Columbia, it would take five people to produce enough energy to tip a cow off its feet—and that’s only if the cow’s legs stayed locked. Given that a) cows don’t sleep on their feet, and b) they don’t make a habit of just rolling over when people start shoving them, city slickers who believed they might one day have a chance to prove their brawn by bowling over a bovine can kiss that dream goodbye. Also, as Modern Farmer points out, there’s not a single video on YouTube (“the clearinghouse of human stupidity”) showing humans pushing over a cow. If that’s not nail-in-a-coffin proof, we don’t know what is. And if you’re just looking for an easy laugh, see these 50 Animal Puns That Are Seriously Amoosing.
Slide 4 of 21: The good news: try as they might, porcupines (whose Latin name literally translates to “quill pig”) wouldn’t be able to shoot their quills very respectable distances at the shooting range. The bad news: they can still release their approximately 30,000 pokey prickles. According to National Geographic, the quills just have to be touched in order to detach, so you should still give these critters a wide berth.
Slide 13 of 21: They might play dead, but possums (more formally known as opossums) don’t live up to other stereotypes about their habits. As detailed by the Opossum Society of the United States, the opossum has a prehensile tail, which is useful for many moves, including “grasping branches, balancing, and carrying nesting material.” But this little fella never uses its tail to hang upside down.

Stinking Criminal

If any crime has ever been a laughing matter this has to be the one! Police in Liberty,Missouri were searching for a man wanted on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance when the man's body betrayed him and he loudly passed gas. Needless to say both the Liberty PD and the Clay County Sheriffs Dept. let the flatulence jokes rip.
“Thanks to @SheriffClayCo for airing out a wanted person’s dirty laundry and fanning the flames. The Liberty Police Department was surprised to see this incident slip out, which stinks for the arrestee. Fortunately, no one was injured during his arrest #nervousbelly #nocomment
If you’ve got a felony warrant for your arrest, the cops are looking for you and you pass gas so loud it gives up your hiding spot, you’re definitely having a 💩 day. 🚓
Liberty PD said no one was hurt in the blast.

It's In the Bag?

A Vancouver,BC independent business offering organic and fair trade produce came up with an odd take on reducing plastic bag use. Not only are they charging five cents per bag the bags are printed with names of businesses meant to shame the customers into remembering to bring their own reusable bags. So you're probably wondering how that is working out for them...it's pretty much a mixed bag (pun intended!) the bags are so popular they've decided to have them made up as reusable bags, another school of thought is why didn't they just get rid of the plastic altogether and go to paper?

Parroting Parrots

The UK man known as Mr. Parrotman lives by the words,"You know it's your body at the end of the day. You should be able to do whatever you want with it." With those words in mind he has had his face tattooed with feathers in the five colors of his parrots. Had dye injected into his eyes at the risk of blindness (I'm not sure what this has to do with birds,if anything),and had his ears cut off to look more like bird ears even though it has impaired his hearing, and never mind birds are fascinated by human ears as they think they look like flowers. He said he never thought about the complications or looked at the negative because you'd never do anything that way.
