We've all had one of those days when nothing goes right and before noon you're convinced you should go back to bed for your own and everyone else's safety. I have been trying to run down a specific COVID test for travel since February,a lot of that time was spent spinning my wheels but I finally was pointed in a direction by the airline which went through Costco online to get a test which you did yourself then sent back in for the results. I ordered that and begin the wait...it's still not here and neither is an explanation. I checked for local testing and found a lab across the hall from my doctor's office and was scheduled for this morning with a 24 hour turn around time,I got there and they said they were sorry but they couldn't do the test I required after telling me yesterday they could. They suggested that the airport had a tent that did testing and I should check that out. If I had this "correct" information from the start all would be well, but now at the last minute it would take me two trips to Portland in two days and no guarantee the results would be back in time. So I cancelled everything and decided to go to Fred Meyer's to pick up a prescription,it turns out they close the pharmacy from 9-10 a.m. to administer COVID vaccines which would be fine if they made that known though it still begs the question why they had full staff on hand and only two people were working the vaccine line, not even the drive thru was open. Okay, end of rant.

Sleeping on the Job
Though $1,500 a month isn't a living wage considering the "work" involved it is good pay for the job. EachNight.com is researching the pros and cons of napping and seeking a team of nap reviewers to document their naps for what amount of time leaves them feeling the most refreshed along with other details like how the nap effects memory, fatigue, motivation and productivity. The reviewers will be required to participate in a video call before and after their naps. Applications are being accepted for the five positions until May 31.

Gift Guide
With Mother's Day nearly upon us there is still time to find the perfect gift for your unique mom,you know the ones I mean who don't really care for flowers and though they may love chocolate that doesn't give you a chance to show off your creative side which no doubt came from said mom. The lovely toilet paper earrings are not only a nod to the 2020 shortage but also subtly point out the correct way to hang the roll.

It's a Sign!
In the millions of miles I logged behind the wheel I've seen my share of humorous/confusing road signs so without further ado I'll present some for you amusement.

Fat Napper
I'm sharing this story because it cracked me up and everyone can always use a good laugh. A man was caught taking a picture of a dog by a well meaning but suspicious local who went on social media to warn residents that he'd seen a man in a van taking a picture of a dog and advising that everyone keep a close eye on their pets. All good so far...as it turned out the man was taking a picture of the dog because it was the fattest dog he'd ever seen and wanted to be able to show his son he wasn't making it up. Short of that dog having a medical condition causing its obesity, the owner could use a good round of fat pet shaming so the dog could lead a longer better life, but thanks for the laugh at your fat pet's expense.

Rolling
Have any of you ever wondered how George Lucas came up with the iconic (read weird) hairdo for Princess Leia? The first time I saw her hairdo I thought she was wearing some kind of new age earmuffs but maybe that was just me. Lucas actually got the idea from turn of the century Mexican female revolutionaries called soldaderas. One in particular Clara de la Rocha was a key figure in the history of the revolution. The Hopi Indian may have contributed to the look too with a style known as a "squash blossom" which for some reason I thought was what the big chunky turquoise necklaces were called,at any rate the style seems a little cumbersome for battling purposes.

Are We There Yet?
It is apt for our region (Pacific NW) that May was named after the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants.
