Is it possible that the antics of those involved in Texas politics have angered the gods? It makes a person wonder when you mentally recap the things that have been visited upon the Texans. Most of us will recall the freezing over of Texas but that was last year, this year has already displayed biblical phenomena when the clouds opened up and rained fish upon Texarkana for several minutes. Though known to happen on occasion when small fish, frogs and other species get picked up and relocated by waterspouts it might be a good idea for Texans to hedge their bets and vote in different people to take care of their state. Just a thought.

Abundance
In a clear case of penis envy the 10 foot indigenous (Peru) huaco statue that was installed for the New Year was damaged after three hooded people threatened to kill the security guard working there. The statue was the work of a local plastics sculptor who wanted to contribute something cultural to the area. The mayor had dedicated the piece saying,"In our culture it doesn't represent eroticism but faith to god. In addition sexuality must be seen as something normal and natural. It represents abundance, fertility and in these times we need abundance in every sense,in health, the economy, peace and love."

More McNews
Kudos to Mickey D's for setting a target of 2050 for zero net emissions though I remain unconvinced that plant based meat is actually healthy. That might sound paranoid but what kind of additives are they using to make Beyond Meat taste like their iconic burgers? The taste tests conducted for a few months at the end of 2021 showed customer approval for what is now called the McPlant which features a plant based patty, vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, vegan sauce, fresh onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato and vegan cheese. Kinda an abrupt turn from the supersize days, but again good for McDonald's.

Fake News
Remember when the movie,"The Interview" came out and North Korea wanted to go to war over it? In that movie it showed the wizard behind the curtain and once that was revealed the rest was a domino affect in the movie. In reality things remain the same in North Korea, the masses barely fed but the Rodong Sinmun newspaper which basically reports what it is told to report telling how good life is. A story they carried recently reported that the late Kim Jong il invented burritos in 2011 and they have become national delicacy when in reality they lack most if not all of the ingredients necessary to make even a basic burrito. My point being, don't be like North Korea learn to differentiate between real and fake. Good luck on your assignment!

Not What It Seems
Song lyrics can be a source of confusion even when the words are clear their meaning seldom is. One example Is Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" which taken at face values sounds like a guy falling for a girl and doing whatever she wanted. The real story is a bit comical. The band was doing a sound check before opening for The Guess Who in 1974 playing what would become the guitar riff and drum beat that would eventually become "Walk This Way". They worked on the song off and on but could never get lyrics that worked for it until they saw "Young Frankenstein" and started reciting the lines and hit on the one where Igor tells Gene Wilder to "walk this way" and Wilder imitates the hunchback's steps. Will you ever think of that song in the same way?

Banned!
Along with a fresh year we also get a list of phrases, cliches if you will, that were given such a workout the previous year that they are now being retired. I welcome the retirement of most of these, some of the others not so much. The list includes: Wait, what?,no worries, the new normal, supply chain, you're on mute, circle back, asking for a friend, deep dive, that being said and at the end of the day.The list was first introduced in 1976 at Lake Superior State University and is updated every year.
