Edith Ann + 1

How many of you remember Edith Ann and the giant rocking chair? Good times were had watching Lily Tomlin as the 5 year old Edith Ann spewing her wisdom... and that's the truth! There is a giant rocking chair in Casey, Illinois in fact it's the World's Largest Rocking Chair at 56 feet tall and 33 feet wide plus to gain the title 10 townsfolk had to prove that the chair could actually rock. The chair is part of the Big Things In a Small Town plan to increase tourism. The town now boasts 12 Guinness records for World's Largest Things including a golf tee, wind chimes and wooden shoes to name a few.  Rock on.

Fun Guys

When a person thinks of Texas mushrooms isn't the first thing to come to mind but that hasn't stopped them from choosing an official state mushroom. Only two other states have state mushrooms, Oregon and Minnesota. The mushroom known as both the Texas Star and Devil's Cigar is fairly rare and mostly grows from the stumps of cedar elm trees in the central and northern parts of the state but is also found in Japan. Before it becomes the Texas Star it looks like a fat stogie growing and as it releases its spores and takes on the star shape it makes a hissing noise. For those of you who are wondering it isn't considered an edible mushroom.

A Buttload

A few fun facts for the day...in imperial measures a butt is a cask of liquid. In the wine and brewing world a butt is 108 imperial gallons or 126 U.S. gallons which by anyone's standards is a buttload. Speaking of butts, before Uranus was named for the Greek god of the sky it was called George's Star after King George III though that name wasn't readily accepted by the astronomy community so in 1850 the planet got renamed Uranus.

Dear Old Dad

If you're lucky enough to still have your father maybe you can reward him with a fun Father's Day gift this year. The offerings this year are kind of meager compared to past years but still better than a tie though speaking of ties maybe he would find this tie/apron combo useful?

Over the Top

Even though the Bugatti Residences in Dubai isn't built yet it is a cringe worthy venture in its extravagance. The plan is for 42 stories featuring 171 mansions, 11 penthouses, all with unique designs and layouts, Riviera inspired beach, private pool, jacuzzi spa, fitness club, chef's table, private valet, and private members club. But wait there's more! Worried about parking those spendy cars? Not to worry the residences include two car garages with auto lifts that bring the cars up to the apartments and park them though apparently visitors, should there be any, are on their own for parking spots.

Special word for those who quit reading my blog after my comment to the LGBQT community...I'm not Budweiser or Target, I don't make a red cent off of writing this on a daily basis it is for entertainment purposes only both mine and yours so if my opinions upset you that's too damn bad. Of course if you're truly done reading my efforts you won't be seeing this anyway but perhaps the word will get to you through the grapevine.

New Word?

Ironically a high school in Illinois called "Rich Township High School" apparently weren't rich enough to hire a vendor to make the graduation stoles without a spelling error and never mind that the school didn't notice the spelling mistake either. They had passed out the stoles and some of the students had already finished their part in the ceremony when one family noticed the word Gradutate on the stole instead of Graduate. So not only did the manufacturer drop the ball the very people in charge of the students weren't clever enough to catch the mistake. It seems possible to me that the stoles had been made in another country where the mistake went unnoticed though the vendor took full credit and will mail the corrected items out to all the students. Oh well it will give the graduates a good laugh when they are older.
