Natural Dining

Not to worry I haven't gone vegan or even entirely organic,  in fact today's post isn't really about the food so much as it is the dress code. Maybe everyone else already knows about the latest trend in dining is doing so without clothes. Some enthusiasts claim it takes away the pretenses, if so then call me pretentious! I'm not sure where the first nude diner was opened but there is one in New York City, England, Australia and one will soon be opening in Tokyo. The only differences in these establishments is the one in Tokyo has qualifiers: no tattoos, no one over 60, and no one 33 lbs. over the average body weight for their height. Oddly enough San Francisco has a ban on nude dining, I find that surprising in the otherwise ahead of the times city. In case any of you are going to rush right out for a nude meal you are required to bring your own towel to sit on for sanitation purposes. Bon Appetit!

Talller Than 5'5"

The minions claim if your boyfriend isn't taller than 5'5" then he is your minion, which leaves me to wonder if you paint a 25' silo to look like a minion what is that called? That is exactly what a couple decided to do when it was time to paint their silo in Ossian ,Ohio. Last fall after a few cocktails the husband and wife were talking about the silo's unique shape and decided their grandkids would love it if they painted it like a minion. When they were finished it became an instant tourist attraction even though they are located in the middle of nowhere there are now traffic jams from people stopping to take pictures. They have also had low flying helicopters and a bus from a local home for the elderly. They are planning on adding a hat and eyeglasses in the future.

Congrats! You're All Number One...

Everyone being number one sounds kind of silly doesn't it? It is in direct conflict with the meaning of the word one, not to mention the distinction of being the best, but that is exactly what is happening at high school graduations across the nation. The trend is to name multiple valedictorians and salutatorians instead of choosing only one of each. The reasoning behind this lack of selection are as multiple as the selections themselves but include: it makes it easier for the students to get into better colleges (how so if they hand out the title so freely?) and they all worked hard so they all deserve the honor. To me it sounds like a cop out on the part of the ones doing the choosing so they don't have to look as closely at the accomplishments of their charges, not to mention that this isn't kid's soccer or little league where everyone wins every game, these are adults (for the most part) that are entering real life where the competition is going to get stiffer the further they go up the ladder, so there is a certain need to become accustom to not always being number one. At least they don't have them all giving speeches which could very well take days to complete the ceremony when at times there are up to 30 valedictorians per class. It seems to me the one time honor doesn't mean as much now, then again maybe I'm just old and crabby.

Peep Show

This weekend seems to be the kickoff for summer festivals across the country, there are at least three within a 20 mile radius of my location and of course in Portland the Rose Festival will be taking place, but the 65th annual Poultry Days taking place in Versailles, Ohio in honor of the American farmer sounds just unusual enough to garner my attention. With an event called the cornhole how could I resist? Other annual events include: the serving of 25,000 chicken dinners, two parades, an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, Miss Chick and Little Miss Poultry Days, Kiddie Tractor Pull,
Cake and Egg contest and of course the standard games, rides and music. I tried to find out more about the cornhole tournament but the only info available to a non team member was that it was a team sport and the entry fee is $20 per team.

Mental Health Professional?

I know there are good and bad people in every profession but it seems like most of the mental health care folks I have met could have used  mental health advice rather than giving it. A prime example of my theory is a 68 year old Michigan man who was sentenced to 32 months in prison for two counts of Medicaid fraud conspiracy and one count of embezzlement. The former CEO of a mental health organization spent the funds ($510,000) on a palm reader located in...wait for it...Florida and signed off on the payments as "health care consultant ".  After his release he is expected to pay back double the amount which seems fair but doesn't make it any less shall I say,  crazy?
Tell the future? Ervin Brinker was sentenced by a Lansing-area judge Wednesday, two months after pleading guilty to embezzlement and Medicaid fraud conspiracy
Not in the tea leaves?: Ervin Brinker is going to prison for spending public money on a fortune teller

The Post About Nothing

If Seinfeld can have a show about nothing then surely I can have an occasional post about nothing, unfortunately there is nothing remotely funny about this post unless you have a particularly twisted sense of humor. I spent half the morning on the phone with Dell (English was definitely not his first language), then made a trip for a new VGA cord hoping that would solve the problem, but is anything ever that easy? The next best guess was the video card on the desktop so after I went for a walk I dropped it off at the computer repair shop and am now relying on this laptop which has problems with crashing and dropping the signal. In case you have yet to guess that left me with little to no time to work on a post for today plus a bit on the crabby side, but as Scarlett would say, "Tomorrow's another day".

Unlikely Accident

This is one of those things that make a person think it had to be an advertising gimmick, seriously what are the odds of a beer truck (Busch) and a chip truck (Frito Lay) would collide and spill their wares all over the highway? Do I need to mention it happened in Florida?  Neither driver was injured and accounts vary on the exact cause of the accident but most concur that the beer truck swerved to avoid another car and hit the chip truck...I wonder if the third car had dip,or maybe salsa?  The available photos aren't too great as it occurred around 3 a.m.
