Secret Weapon

Nothing against dentists but it seems odd that a dentist invented the electric chair and bat bombs were also the brain storm of a dentist. After Pearl Harbor was attacked causing the US to enter the war a dentist came up with a plan to strap small bombs with timers to bats then release them in Japanese cities where they would go into buildings to roost. The army captured thousands of bats to test, they put them into ice cube trays to cause them to hibernate while they were shipped overseas. During testing the stealthy bats were so successful on their missions that a few escaped and blew up a fuel tanker, air hangar and a general's car. Fortunately for the bats they were never deployed because the money earmarked for their project got hijacked by the Manhattan Project.

Horseplay

In the 1920s well before Atlantic City became the gambling/entertainment mecca it is today it was known for daredevil type shows. One of the most popular shows featured horses walking up a ramp to be mounted at the end by a young woman then diving 60 feet into the water. Though the riders often sustained injuries including one young woman being blinded by opening her eyes at the wrong moment, the horses were never injured. It was the biggest draw on the Steel Pier. As recently as 2012 there were attempts to reinstate the high diving horses act but of course animal rights activists didn't allow it to get out of the planning stage.

Those Little Devils

Tasmanian devils aren't exactly known for over sharing except for one thing, cancer. While it is mostly unknown in the rest of the animal world the devils have a type of facial cancer tumor that when they fight with each other they spread the cancer. For awhile scientists feared the cancer would lead to the devils extinction but some of the little guys are cancer resistant and can either heal the tumors or live without being adversely affected,in turn they pass this trait on to their offspring kind of like natural selection in reverse. So they are safe for now from the cancer, but still vulnerable to other environmental changes as are all the rest of us.

Better to Remain Silent

And be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. As quotes go I enjoy that one however when it comes to shower thoughts that policy goes out the window!
Dropping a cup of coffee usually wakes you up more than drinking it.
Pets can understand your vocal commands much better than you can understand theirs.
If life is a game, gravestones are participation trophies.
If every purchase you made was measured in hours you worked instead of price you'd be less of a consumer.
Procrastinating is easier done than said.

Genius or Insanity?

Since one of the definitions of insanity is trying the same thing over and over but expecting a different outcome I'm going to go with insanity on this one. This frustrated women decided to start taping money to messes around the house so if someone other than her picked up the mess they would be rewarded with cash, though as time went by she was the only one claiming the money. I'm thinking the situation was already out of control and the only reason she continued the practice was for her own amusement. After she posted the idea on social media others chimed in that in their houses the messes would decompose before they were picked up,or their kids would take the money and throw the trash back on the floor, but one mom nailed it by posting a sign in the laundry room saying,"Put your laundry away or I'll punch you in the throat" Love Mum.

Thinking Out Loud

Today's post comes under the heading of learning something new,at least it's new to me.You know how that voice in your head says your thoughts? Not everyone has that voice. Those internal monologues that I assumed everyone (and even suspected pets had it going on in their own language) has when they're thinking, some people don't think in sentences or words but in abstract non verbal thoughts. Often the people who think non verbally have slower speech and sometimes stutter because they are literally grasping for the words to match the images in their brain. I'm not sure if this part is a fact or not but when I read about this I thought that explained why some folks can go to sleep in any situation, because they don't have to quiet that inner voice.
