Fast Booze

A retired Navy rear admiral and co-owner of Tobacco Barn Distillery teamed up with a retired Marine Corp lieutenant colonel and owner of a California aviation company to create 700 MPH Bourbon. The two were discussing what they were doing in retirement, with the distiller aging rum below decks of a decommissioned warship and the other flying a Harrier in air shows. They decided to merge the pastimes and age bourbon in the Harrier at 700 MPH to see what affect the pressure had on the process. The bourbon is a mix of 51% corn plus rye fermented, distilled and placed in charred oak barrels to age at least 3 years with at least some of that time spent in flight. The finished product would sell for $145 a bottle with a portion of the proceeds going to a nonprofit for wounded and ill service members and their families.
