For those long time readers you might recall when I did a series of posts on nursery rhymes,what they really meant and were used for. The Grimm brothers fairy tales didn't start out as children's stories either,in fact the originals were somewhat gruesome. Cinderella has a magical tree with doves instead of a fairy godmother,at the end of the tale the doves pick the wicked stepsisters eyes out. Rapunzel gets in the family way when the prince comes to visit so her mom tosses him out of the tower which makes his eyeballs pop out,then Rapunzel is evicted with her children and left to fend for herself. Sick as it may sound for some reason I like the original versions better than the ones told today.
