Hold His Beer!

In honor of National Beer Day I decided this little tidbit would be appropriate for today's offering. A California man who is a huge fan of Costco's Kirkland Signature Light made a series of commercials for his favorite brew. The ads feature the possibly tipsy man breaking through a stack a empty beer cases (picture the Kool-Aid Man) and extolling the virtues of the discount beverage, some examples:
"Kirkland Light: It's 11 a.m. somewhere."
"Kirkland Light: Available in 48 packs where you buy your pants!"
"Kirkland Light: Give me a Kirkland,a coozy and a floozy!"
"Kirkland Light: Got a drinking problem? Now you got a drinking solution!"
"Kirkland Light: Life is like a beer. Drink it in and piss it out!"
The man works as a carpenter,so he hasn't quit his day job...yet. He said he drinks about 18 beer a day and got tired of cashiers in other stores asking if someone was having a party which doesn't happen at Costco. His philosophy is,"I don't pick up my tools without a beer and I don't pick up a beer without my tools."

Ghost Hunters Rejoice!

The world's most haunted ship, the Queen Mary has announced that after 30 years they will be offering the most haunted state room,B340, again starting on April,13th (Friday) for $499 per night. What to expect from the ghost if you go is lights and faucets turning off and on by themselves, covers removed from the bed while occupied and a dark figure standing over the bed. Along with the regular amenities B340 also includes a chest with a Ouija Board,Tarot Cards,Crystal Ball and other assorted ghost hunting equipment. I couldn't track down why that room is exceedingly haunted and part of the reason is when the ship was refitted they renumbered all the rooms. B340 became part of a suite with two other rooms so  once the remodel was completed  they weren't sure what the room number was before the changes...or so they claim.

Stuff It

At first I thought the 22 year old Plymouth University 3-D design student was weird for stuffing dead rodents and other small animals and making them into pencil cases and various other items including a rabbit made into a toaster for Easter, but then I decided he was just doing what he could to make extra money while attending school and it was the people who were buying his creations that were the weird ones. Perhaps the weirdest part of all is that most of his customers are from the US,with Norway running a close second...I'm not sure what that means.

Stock Tip

The local paper has a feature on Fridays that is composed of several interesting but unlikely stories. One of them this last Friday was about a stock picking cat named Orlando,an orange tabby who made his choices by throwing a toy mouse on a grid of companies. Those seemingly random choices over a year's time beat out both a team of investment professionals and group of students participating in the experiment. For those of you who are scoffing at Orlando's results he is not the first animal to best the pros,Adam Monk a cinnamon ring-tailed monkey circled his choices in the paper, consistently besting the investors. Lusha, the Russian circus chimpanzee beat 94% of Russian investment managers by picking cubes with company names on them. I will wrap this up with Raven the chimp who threw 10 darts and picked 10 winners, placing 22nd for the year out of 6,000 Wall Street pros. The moral of the story? Don't bother paying for a pro when your pet will out perform them!

Snot Nosed Kids?

The latest challenge among teens actually started about 5 years ago but has recently resurfaced,it isn't quite as bad a chowing down on Tide Pods, though it is close. Who would have thought that when teens got a hold of condoms they would snort them?? They are in search of their 15 minutes of fame by filming themselves with a condom going up their nose and coming out their mouths and putting the video on YouTube. They have been warned that many things can go wrong with this fad, such as choking and infections but they continue with the challenge. I have been trying to remember what my generation did that was weird but don't recall anything on this scale. Generations prior to mine swallowed gold fish which pales in comparison with the risks today's generation is taking to set them apart from the masses. I can't help but wonder what their children will think if they ever come across videos of their parents snorting condoms and eating Tide Pods.

Job or Hobby?

Let me make it clear before I get started today that customs vary from country to country and I am in no way saying these people aren't entitled to perform their customs and ceremonies as they see fit.
A Good Friday tradition in the Philippines is a reenactment of the Crucifixion. Several other countries also celebrate with a reenactment but the difference is the celebration in the Philippines uses real nails  on the people playing the parts of Jesus and the thieves. The people playing the parts consider it a great honor and the man playing Jesus has been playing the part for 32 years. He claimed to feel no pain at all this year which he credited to his strong Catholic faith. Incidentally the church tolerates the ritual but does not support the gory display of devotion.

In Case You Were Wondering

The last time Easter fell on April Fool's Day was in 1956 which explains why I didn't recall it happening. The next time we won't have a long wait as it will occur in 2029.
April is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Month. If you haven't tried it may I suggest spreading the outside of the bread with mayo instead of using butter,it turns out perfect,I think because of the egg in the mayo.
