Brave Brew

Finally a craft beverage where the ingredients kind of make sense, then again maybe I've read so many over the top concoctions that I'm beyond surprise. This brew was actually introduced a little over a year ago in Atlanta. The beer is made by Terrapin Beer Company and the unique flavoring component is shavings from Mizuno baseball bats. This isn't the first time bat shavings have been used in the brewing process as a Colorado brewery aged a beer atop of  Louisville Sluggers in 2013,though the Braves stadium is the first major league ball park to offer bat infused brew at their stadium. They have named the beer "Chopsecutioner"after the way Braves fans do the tomahawk chop during games.

Tax Whining

I read an article earlier about a 12 year old calling 911 because he was served a salad that he didn't want, when authorities didn't arrive soon enough to please him he called again asking when they would be there. A 12 year old should know better than to use an emergency number so frivolously which I consider the fault of the guardians,so they should be fined and if they finally feel like stepping up to the parenting plate they can have the 12 year old pay them back for the amount they were fined. That brings me to another sore spot. Hardly a day goes by when there isn't someone wanting to know why their children aren't taught to balance a checkbook or change a tire (and similar skills) in school,I have a better question,"why aren't you teaching your kids anything at home?" I know I didn't learn either balancing a checkbook or changing a tire in school, and frankly teachers today are much more restricted in subject matter than they were when I was in school.

Strip and Dip

A new Guinness record was set on June 9th when 2,505 women in Ireland went skinny dipping in 53 degree water for a local cancer charity. The previous record was in 2015 in Perth,Australia when 786 people participated. The event was started six year ago when the organizer was diagnosed with breast cancer. She contacted family and friends telling them," I only have one boob and I'm bald,so what's your excuse?" That first year drew 60 women. The event is open to women cancer patients, survivors, and those otherwise affected by the disease.

Beaver Booze

The more I find out what ingredients are used in some of the "craft" concoctions the more I think I'll just stay with the tried and true. A New Hampshire distillery recently released Eau De Musc 88 proof bourbon given its distinct leathery, rich, slightly fruity flavor from scent oils from the castor sacs of beavers. If it sounds like something you would enjoy a 6.7 ounce bottle can be purchased for $65,which isn't even a measuring cup full,in fact I'm trying to decide if they have come out with a new size in booze bottles since the airline size is 50 ml. All that aside the beaver trapper who supplied the castoreum to the distillery said the product is used in a lot of items and if you have had anything that lists "natural flavors"you've already tasted beaver scent oils.

Pie Holes

Domino's Pizza is on a mission to fill in potholes across America. Their "Paving for Pizza" campaign is already underway in Athens,GA,Bartonville,TX ,Burbank,CA and Milford,DE. In Milford Domino's helped fix 40 potholes on 10 roads in 10 hours with 4 crew members.  They are asking customers to nominate their cities for the service because they care about their pizzas making it to their destinations without possible irreversible damage that can be caused by hitting a pothole. It really is a great promotion but I can't help but wonder how much profit they must be making on their pizzas if they can afford to take on a project like this, plus I wonder if their employees are making a livable wage, that's me,always the skeptic.

Crazy Idea

I don't intend to say these researchers are crazy only that reading about their Womba reminded me of an idea I've had on the back burner for awhile but I will get to that part a little later. A pair of Canadian music researchers have developed a wearable electronic device for pregnant women that translates the kicks and movements of the fetus into music. Since their original version of the Womba they have made several advances and hope to be able to refine it to the point where the babies will be able to use it once out of the womb.
Okay, now for the crazy stuff...I know they claim ultra sounds are totally safe for both mother and fetus, though throughout history claims of safety on several innovations have eventually been disproved. What I keep coming back to in my head is once ultra sounds became a standard part of pregnancy is about the same time autism began to rise. It may not have the same effect on all fetuses because something makes some of the unborn more susceptible. Go ahead and call me a nut case now,I never claimed not to be one!
