Fowl Fun

In my opinion this is an example of marketing genius! Popeye's Chicken is offering for a limited time in a limited area an "emotional support chicken" consisting of 3 piece chicken tenders combo. Popeye's  is exhibiting an extraordinary sense of humor with this offer since the support animal movement has become more of a "let's see what we can take on a flight with us" instead of any real need. I have nothing against support animals when it is for real and the animals have training and act properly but I would guess that somewhere around 70% of the animals are bogus. Anyone can go online and order a service animal vest which is how the problem got started and also how is should now be addressed. The way things stand now it is like mocking people who have a sincere need for these animals.

Takes the Cake

A mother's attempt at making a Hercules themed birthday cake for her six year old didn't quite turn out the way she thought it did. The cake featured a big Pegasus with a smaller Pegasus standing in front of it but it basically created an optical illusion which made it look like the big Pegasus was well endowed,though the mom didn't see it until it was pointed out. Who knows what that might mean or if it has any meaning,but the results were funny and I'm pretty sure the six year old didn't care one way or another.

Well damn,it didn't copy the whole cake. I guess you'll have to use your imagination! Here are some other optical illusions you can work on if you wish.

It's Da Bomb!

Some of you may have seen a piece about this on the news but since I had read about it before I watched the news I have a few additional facts to add. The man who came up with the fart laced glitter bomb to thwart porch pirates is a retired NASA engineer. Not only did the thieves get a smelly,messy surprise for their efforts they were also filmed and recorded,and for the bonus round there was a GPS tracking device allowing them to be tracked to their lairs. One more piece of good news if you are having trouble with porch pirates...the glitter bombs can be ordered online. I'm not sure the one the NASA engineer made is available yet but I'm guessing it will be coming to a thief near you soon!

Time For a Change?

The debates rage on and on over some fairly obscure items,from song lyrics to idioms and of course we mustn't leave Santa out of the mix. Some folks are arguing that maybe Santa should be female,or sexless. Then there are others who think it's time to tinker with Santa's image a bit,things like hairstyle,tattoos,wardrobe,shoes...you get the idea. The good news is 64% of people polled think Santa is just fine the way he is. I for one can't believe how we got to this place where old time song lyrics are suddenly nefarious and simple idioms suggest animal abuse. I guess if a person looks hard enough offense can be found most anywhere.

Maybe Minus the Mint

An ice cream parlor in Scotland is serving Brussels sprout/mint ice cream for the holiday season. The ice cream is made with real sprouts and peppermint oil and is served with a frozen sprout as garnish,or at least I assume its purpose is garnish since it doesn't seem like anyone would be expected to gnaw on a frozen sprout. I love sprouts and can even imagine eating sprout ice cream as several recipes for preparing sprouts feature cream or half and half,but I can't put the mint into the mix without making an ugly face.

This Little Piggy

Piggy banks date back to at least the 2nd century BC but they weren't always in the shape of a pig. Most commonly any empty container could be used to store coins but around the 15th century metals were expensive and seldom used for household purposes so most containers were made for a orangish colored clay called pygg. People began calling the containers pygg jars and eventually (around the 19th century) potters started making them in the shape of a pig which caught on in a big way leaving us with the now common term "piggy bank". For filing purposes today's post should go under "learned something new",unless of course you already knew!

Stocking Stuffers

If you have anyone on your shopping list who still use hard copy calendars but prefer something unusual this may be your lucky day! When I initially browsed through these I thought a couple of them were charity related but when I looked a second time I didn't find that so it would appear that I'm slipping that final cog.
