I was a little disturbed to find out that the female praying mantis doesn't always eat the male after mating, now the only thing that makes them exceptional is they can turn their heads, but hey so can dragonflies. Only about 13% to 28% of the males give their lives after mating and the reason is understandable but another letdown. Turns out it is as simple as the female being hungry though the females who resort to cannibalism lay more eggs so I guess you could think of it as the male paying the ultimate sacrifice for his offspring. I'm still disappointed!
