As devastating as the fires burning are to the humans in their paths I can only imagine what it must be like for the animals who have no idea what is going on nor what to do about it other than rely on instinct which in a state of panic may be less than reliable. That is why this story of the unlikely friends banding together to survive the Carr fire got my attention. A team of firefighters patrolling unharmed structures found a cat and a chicken huddled together in the doorway of a home. They were able to coax them both into an animal carrier and get them to vet where they were treated for burns. They are both expected to make a full recovery. Of course there is the chance the two were friends before the fire and it was only odd to the firefighters who were unaware of their relationship.
