Somehow what was called tube socks in the 70s is now a hot, cult souvenir in Japan, only they are calling them convenience store socks or conbini. The trend started in 2021 when FamilyMart launched their Convenience Wear featuring socks, bags and underwear the locals barely noticed, but the line of socks took off. FamilyMart wasn't the only one to cash in on the trend other convenience stores started selling their own renditions with different colored stripes that represent the various company colors. The socks caught on quickly with tourists as they were an easy item to fit into suitcases to give as gifts once they went home. They have expanded on both colors and themes and now offer socks for every occasion.
