A couple in England is taking sustainability to the next level, they have a furniture farm where they train trees to grow into chairs, lamps and tables. They are currently nurturing 250 chairs,100 lamps and 50 tables. It is their answer to the inefficient and carbon heavy process of cutting down mature trees to cut up to make furniture. It is pretty crazy when you think about growing a tree for 50 years or more then cutting it up into pieces only to be put back together. By using stone age techniques they are taking the problems caused my modern forestry out of the equation. Of course it takes 6-9 years to grow one chair and the cost is quite high ($12,480 for chairs, lamps start at $1,120 and tables go from $3,120-$15,600)but the organic process is quite labor and time consuming which contributes to the high cost.
