Hair Library

Who knew that one of the treasures at Harvard University is the Houghton Library? It isn't just any kind of library, along with regular library offerings it contains samples of hair from people of historical significance, like Napoleon I, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Amelia Earhart, John Keats and his fiancé, Fanny Brawne, Emily Dickinson's maternal grandparents and other assorted samples. Before the days of cell phones when pictures and messages could be sent instantly people would give their loved ones locks of hair. A little weird by today's standards though still a unique find.
