A retired 63 year old postman in Turkey rescued an injured swan 37 years ago and she's been by his side every since. He discovered her in a field where she was easy prey with her broken wing so he took her home and named her Garip meaning bizarre or down on your luck. She was kept in a pen until her wing healed but was free to leave once she was able,instead she chose to make friends with the dogs and cats and follow the man as he did his chores and went for evening walks. It was a good choice on her part as swans in the wild only live to be around 12 but have lived to be 30 in protected environments.
