Today's post is of the accidental variety since I found it while looking for something else. I think most of us know enough paleontology to realize some of the weirdest animals (dinosaurs) lived before man roamed the earth but these 5 that I'm bringing to you today were living at the same time as man,in fact some of these are fairly close to animals still in existence.

| This guy is a platybelodon,as you might guess a distant relative of elephants. I particularly like him as he looks like a duck billed elephant. |
These guys were called terror birds since they could kill most anything in their path with their beaks,reinforced skulls and if that didn't do the trick they finished the kill by kicking it to death.

| This one could easily pass for a relative of the rhinoceros but is more closely related to elephants and sea cows. |

| This one is a woolly rhinoceros,it was bigger than today's rhinos and found depicted on many cave walls. |
The opabinia puts me in mind or a lobster mutation though they rarely grew larger than 2 and 1/2 inches.
