Phone books used to be a common item in pretty much every home though they've gone the way of the dodo since cell phones keep all the information for your contacts nowadays. The younger generations would be horrified at the thought of names, addresses and phone numbers being available to anyone with a phone book. The first phone book was published in 1878 in New Haven, Connecticut and had 50 names. Alabama was the first state to declare Christmas a holiday in 1836. 71 years later Oklahoma was the last state to make Christmas legal. Skyscrapers are a common part of big cities but in 1885 the Home Insurance Building was the first to be built in Chicago, Illinois.
