Today's post will explore a few food items with odd names, like head cheese which has nothing to do with cheese other than it is firm and sometimes served cold. Head cheese is a jellylike dish made with either a pig or calf head with bits of meat and skin. Killed lettuce aka wilted lettuce is lettuce with hot vinaigrette dressing making it appear dead (don't feel bad it was dead already). The last item on today's list is possum pie, which thankfully contains no possum but instead is a dessert made with layered chocolate and vanilla puddings and sometimes pecans. The name is probably due to the color of the dessert is similar to that of a possum.
