Drawing a Blank

How exactly is a blank drawn? wouldn't that just be the lack of any drawing? But seriously what about those time when your brain just steps out for a moment or several? Not to worry, mostly it's normal in fact researchers think our minds are blank between 5 and 20% of the time. They kind of proved it by having subjects scanned while at rest then asking what they had been thinking about, the subjects who responded by saying their minds had been blank showed the same brain signal seen when sleeping or under anesthesia. The blanks are thought to be a brain pit stop where toxins are cleared allowing for optimal function. Who knows? It's nice to know we all do it and that it's normal.
