According to Psychology Today magazine what makes a name music to our ears is a phenomenon called the Bouba/Kiki effect, which basically means how people associate sounds with shapes. Bouba is chosen consistently as a round shape where Kiki was chosen as a spiky shape. This concept applies to names as well. Round, or smooth sounding names like Bob or Molly remind people of easy going, good natured people, where names like Kate or Kirk are considered spiky and make people think of rude or abrupt people.
