Underground

It gets so hot in Coober Pedy, Australia that 60% of the town lives underground. At temperatures of 131 in the shade being outside is only comfortable for a few minutes at a time. Houses are dug into the sandstone about 4 meters (13 feet) deep then the walls and ceiling are sealed to prevent dust and grit from falling and surprisingly the homes are both cheaper to build and live in than average properties. Another plus is once you close your door it is completely quiet, no outside noise at all.  Who knows? at this point we may all be living underground in the future, though I will really miss my view.
