A group of Scientists announced they had created vodka from ingredients found inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone and appropriately named it Atomik. One thing I wondered right away was why scientists were making vodka and there is a fairly good reason. It was part of a three year research project testing crops grown in the exclusion zone for radioactivity. The crops themselves were still slightly above the safe level but the grains and water once distilled reduced the level to undetectable, though I don't think I would rush out to try it. The newly found Chernobyl Spirit Company will soon be selling Atomik and 75% of the proceeds will go to communities affected by the disaster. Imagine the names of drinks you could make with this vodka! Meltdown and Nuclear Option come to mind and of course the title of today's post,Going Nuclear.
