Usually when someone describes a dog's color as blue it means the dog is a gray color but that's not the case with the Dogs of Chernobyl. It has also been determined that the coloring is not a mutation from the radiation after the nuclear disaster in 1986 which left many pets behind when people were forced to evacuate. The animals have since thrived and multiplied along with wildlife in the area, in fact wolves have developed protective mutation that increase their odds of surviving cancer. So what is causing the mysterious blue coloring? It is believed that an old porta-potty in the area had cracked and leaked the blue chemical fluid and the dogs, being dogs, rolled in it.
