Have you ever wondered why Super Bowls use Roman numerals instead of regular numbers? It all started in 1970 with the Chief's founder who thought using Roman numerals would signify a major event and add class to the name. The first four games names were changed from regular numbers to Roman numerals and all following games with the exception of Super Bowl L have remained Roman numerals. With Super Bowl 50 they thought the L looked typographically odd so that was the odd year out to avoid confusion...or so they say, though the whole reasoning remains clear as mud and a bit on the bulky side. Imagine if the announcers and commercials had to say the letters instead of the numbers throughout the many hours devoted to the event, in short it would be even longer!
