Pretty in Pink

If watermelon snow has been around since Aristotle was a pup why haven't I heard of it before? Actually it was fairly rare until recent years, now it can be found in most places that get snow on a regular basis. Some of you may be wondering what watermelon snow is at this point,it is reddish/pink colored snow caused by an algae that is adapted to cold temperatures and it can also smell like watermelon. The bad news is watermelon snow causes the melting process to accelerate contributing to the glaciers melting so if you were thinking it might be a cool (pun intended) thing to have watermelon snow you will be disappointed. Oh,and if you were wondering if it is okay to eat pink snow the answer is a little is okay but the algae can cause digestive issues,so try to refrain from any more that a small sample.
