Bread Head

The Kentucky Derby is known for the fancy hats worn by the women attending the race almost as much as it is known for the fast horses and it's just around the corner. This year Panera is offering a hat that looks like one of their popular bread bowls for the reasonable price of $21, a nod to the 21 new and enhanced items on their menu and the hat can still arrive in time for Derby day! Not only does it cost considerably less than most Derby head gear it also comes with a $100 Panera gift card.

Dumbing Down

It was only a matter of time before the people addicted to their smartphones decided to cure the addiction by going back in time to what they're calling dumbphones. Partly due to Gen Z's embracing all things retro the new/old dumbphones are like the cell phones from the 90s where there were no apps or internet only calls and texting. DumbWireless started offering the dumbphones in 2022 for $50-$300 and have seen sales steadily rising. For those who aren't sure if they are ready to give up their smartphones they often switch a SIM card back and forth between a dumbphone and a smartphone. If nothing else it gives parents a way to get their children a cell phone without the smartphone pitfalls.

Dog Gone

BARK Air is launching a first class jet charter service for pampered pets. At this time they only have two flight routes available and both leave from New York's Westchester County Airport. For $8,000 you and your pooch can fly from New York to London's Stansted Airport or for $6,000 you can fly from New York to Los Angeles Van Nuys Airport. There is no TSA procedure to follow only a simple check in where the dogs meet the other dogs on the flight and the owners have a meal prepared by an on- site chef. The plane is prepared with calming pheromones, music and colors preferred by dogs. Once they are airborne the dogs will be offered calming treats, noise canceling earmuffs and calming jackets. During take off and descent the pampered pups will be offered a beverage of their choice to help their ears adjust to the pressure. Considering all the treat consumption and excitement I wonder who is in charge of cleaning up any messes?

Good Dog!

Are you looking for a versatile home security/all around cool tool? Look no further you can upgrade/replace your current systems with The Thermonator, a flamethrower wielding robotic dog. The flamethrower is mounted on its back and can use gasoline or napalm. It features a one hour battery, a 30 foot flame throwing range and Wi-Fi /Bluetooth connectivity for remote control through a smartphone. All this can be yours for $9,420 and they are legal in most states. Imagine clearing the snow and ice from your street then taking your "dog" for a nice walk around the neighborhood!

Another Pretty Face?

It was only a matter of time before the first AI beauty pageant took place and that time is now. Participants will be judged on three categories: Their appearance, beauty and poise and their answers to a series of questions. The use of AI tools including prompts and visual details around the hands and eyes. Last on the list is their social media clout. The contestants will be whittled down to 10 before a winner is chosen next month. Here is one of the many troubling parts of this contest...two of the judges are AI! Maybe it's just me but that somehow seems wrong, actually the whole thing seems wrong. Only the judges in the middle of the judges picture are the real people.

Eating Healthy?

As they are known for doing Consumer Reports is holding the EPA's feet to the fire for their inept approach to pesticide use on the fruits and vegetables we eat. The truth of eating 5 a day depends a lot on your choices but some of the items thought to be healthy have dangerous levels of pesticides, such as blueberries and green beans. Most adults won't be too bothered by the contamination but pregnant women, children and those with health concerns need to be cautious and probably use organically grown produce.  I've included a risk list to help you assess your risks.

Very Low Risk

Okay to eat more than 10 servings a day
