Fiction Predictions

The list of books and authors who accurately predicted future events/inventions is both long and varied,of course a person could argue that the inventions came about because they gave someone an idea, but what about things like Jonathon Swift mentioning Mars having two moons well before they were discovered? Once again I digress,I just wanted to add another author to go along with greats like H.G. Wells, and Jules Verne who were responsible for at least 6 future inventions between the two of them. J.K. Rowling's invisibility cloak from the Harry Potter series is nearly a reality as scientists fine tune the quantum optics involved in making things invisible. I wonder if she will be eligible for royalties? not that she needs them though she is big on philanthropy.

Indirect Donation?

Two jewelers in India have broken the Guinness World Record for most diamonds in a ring. The previous record was set in 2015 with a peacock ring containing 3,827 diamonds. The new record holder is a lotus flower featuring 6,690 diamonds set in 18 karat rose gold weighing in at over 58 grams (more than a golf ball) and costing $4,116,787. The lotus flower was chosen to raise awareness of the importance of water conservation and the fame that comes with the record they hope will draw others to their cause. I can't help but wonder what good could have been done directly with that kind of money and though the ring is decidedly pretty both the weight and design would make wearing it even for a short time impractical.

Preposition Power

It seems likely that someone suggested to this man to go sleep under a bridge but since it occurred in Florida the man probably thought any preposition would do and chose on the bridge. Unfortunately while he was asleep "on" the bridge the bridge was opened. A woman on the way to her yoga class attempted to tell the bridge operator about the man but was unable to get his attention. She watched as the bridge went up to see the man wake up and grab a railing before sliding off. Of course since it was "in" Florida he may have been safer "on" the bridge. Wow,is it just me or does today's post contain a remarkable amount of prepositions?

Diet Hazard

Vegan dieters are admirable in a way for being able to give up all the fine foods that are animal based, but there are drawbacks to be considered. A Rocklin,CA woman took her father and family out for a Father's Day meal to a German restaurant that was supposed to be vegan friendly. After a two hour wait the food was finally  presented, mass quantities of various dishes for the rest of the family though the vegan offering turned out to be less than vegan friendly. The vegan meal consisted of a pretzel bun with green beans and carrots. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the restaurant doesn't get a lot of vegans diners which may have played a large part in the two hour wait and the meager vegan offering. Not every vegan dining experience is a good one apparently!

Plumber's Passion

A 96 year old retired plumber known as The King of the Commode is now looking to retire from his hobby if he can find someone to keep The Toilet Seat Art Museum intact. The museum consists of 1,300 decorated toilet seat lids including one with a chunk of the Berlin Wall,a piece of insulation from the Space Shuttle Challenger,Pez dispensers, arrowheads and the toilet lid from the plane that carried the body of Aristotle Onassis back to Greece. I have no idea how long he worked as a plumber before he retired but it seems odd that he would choose toilet seat art as a hobby...maybe he wasn't quite ready to flush his career or would that be pull the plug?

New Health Drink!

It's hard to believe how naive people can be,for instance an artist set up a booth at the Car-Free Festival in Vancouver,Canada selling bottles of unfiltered hot dog water for $38. The water was touted as the new coconut water with health benefits such as weight loss, regain your youthful appearance, increase brain function and improve vitality. He also claimed the protein from the hot dog helps your body uptake the water content plus with the sodium it was everything a person needed for post workout and that scientists had spent a lot of time researching the drink. In fine print on the flyer advertising the health drink it said,"Hot Dog Water in its absurdity hopes to encourage critical thinking related to product marketing and the significant role it can play in our purchasing choices." Sadly only a few people figured out it was a sham.

Pucker Power

On the 25th of this month KFC will be offering for a limited time Pickle Fried Chicken. People were always asking for extra pickles on their KFC sandwiches so they came up with a special sauce containing dill, vinegar, onion, garlic, buttermilk and black and white pepper. The new sauce will be available on Crispy Colonel Sandwich,Extra Crispy Tenders,Chicken Littles and Extra Crispy Chicken. The bummer is they will only be available at select locations and only for about 3 weeks or while supplies last. I would happily try this recipe!

Blood Sweat and Tears

Bodily fluids are the ingredients for fashion accessories that are being made by a London fashion student to replace the plastics that are more commonly used. The student also believes there are other health and environmental benefits from growing the decorative crystals directly onto the garments that they decorate. They don't really look so much like decoration to me as they do something that got lost in a dark corner and forgotten for eons, then again I've never claimed to have any fashion sense and at least they don't require fossil fuels to be made.

Chicken in the Round

When I started reading about the new chicken nugget/doughnut combination I thought it sounded nausea inducing, but being a glutton for information I read on. A man from Scotland who is currently residing in Australia decided the world needed  donugs which are circular (doughnut) shaped breaded (with cornflakes and panko crumbs) then deep fried chicken rings. They come with the option of three sauces: cheesy Dijon bechamel, hot chili, Japanese curry with mozzarella or can be eaten plain. Their creator figures they would be the perfect snack for sporting events once they become available in places other than Melbourne which shouldn't be too much longer as they are now in production with plans in the works for distribution. I was glad to have my fears allayed that they were not actually doughnuts though they are only 98% chicken I'm relatively sure that is more chicken content than is found in other nuggets.

Wee,Wee,Wee

Today's post borders on the bizarre at best though I would be more inclined to question the sanity of this "beauty" ritual. An American (Florida,is that you?) woman claims she has cured her acne and depression by drinking her dog's urine. She also claims it cures cancer however urotherapy is not endorsed by the medical community even though it was practiced in several ancient cultures, urine is after all loaded with the bad things that the kidneys filter out. There are so many questions I have for this woman: exactly what made you think,"hey,I bet that dog pee will help my skin!" not to mention how do you train a dog to pee in a cup so you can swill it down like a fine wine?? but alas she chooses to remain anonymous.

Man vs Rabbit

Today's post is one of those things a person never thinks much about but once you hear that other cultures see the man in the moon as a rabbit you think that the dark areas contrasting with the lighter areas are somewhat like clouds and could seemingly be any number of things. The folklore about a rabbit living on the moon originated in China and was then adopted by other Asian cultures. It is also part of the belief that the rabbit is working with a mortar and pestle but the contents of the mortar vary from the elixir of life to rice cakes so that portion of the lore seems to be open to interpretation.

Joint Venture

A joint valued at $24,000 contains more than a pound of marijuana,6 oz of concentrate, and 2 oz of bubble hash, wrapped in rolling papers made of 24-karat gold leaf worth $5,000 and shaped like an elephant tusk was auctioned for $4,000. The reason for the shape of giant joint is the charity it was donated for,the African Wildlife Foundation, is currently training German shepherds to chase off elephant poachers. They figure when it is time to fire the joint up they will make a video of the event though it may take multiple attempts to finish it off. Not to rain on any ones parade but since it's poachers they're dealing with wouldn't they just shoot the dogs?

Meth Mayhem

Some of you may be surprised to learn that the subject of today's post hailed from Florida, okay, that's a lie,not the Florida part but that anyone would be surprised by what happens in that state. A 49 year old man contacted the Putnam County sheriff's office saying he had experienced a bad reaction to some meth he had purchased and wondered if they would test it for him. Of course the sheriff said they would be happy to oblige. Long story short, they tested the meth and instead of the man getting to press charges against the person who sold him the meth the sheriff went the extra mile and arrested the man for possession. The sheriff's department then posted,"Remember, our detectives are always ready to assist anyone who believes they were misled in their illegal drug purchase."
Douglas Peter Kelly, 49, found himself in jail after asking officers to test his meth.
