Holy Cat

Doorkins Magnificat came to the Southwark Cathedral in London  12 years ago as a stray and died September 30. She was very popular and was the reason that many of the people who visited  the church, including an encounter with Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 came, so the appropriate memorial to honor her contributions and service to the church was held yesterday and live streamed so her many admirers could honor her memory. Rest well Doorkins.

Blue in the Face

For those essential workers and those who have been able to return to their workplace they may find some fun in dressing up for Halloween today or for others tomorrow. One group of workers at a warehouse decided to trick a coworker by telling him they were all dressing up today as Smurfs,so when he showed up for his shift and was the only one in costume he could have been mad,but he took it in stride and even seemed to enjoy being the butt end of their joke. Happy almost Halloween!

Red Herring Day

I got a call from a friend last night (I was already in bed) wishing me a happy birthday,of course it wasn't my birthday but it's the thought that counts. That call made me think about George Carlin's bit on aging how when you're young you want to age quickly so you add and a half to your age or skip ahead a year or two, then you "become" 21 like that is a major accomplishment. Then things start going downhill when you "turn" 30,like milk turning sour. Next you're pushing 40,you reach 50,make it to 60,you hit 70,you get into your 80s then like magic it all starts regressing and you're adding the 1/2 to your age again most likely with the thought that you may not "hit" the next round year. I miss George Carlin he was both funny and wise.

Whoosh!

In August of this year I did a post about an escaped 150 lb tortoise in Tennessee noting with amusement that it happened so fast. In the end Solomon (the tortoise) was reunited with his family.  Apparently the southern portion of the east coast is conducive to keeping tortoises though they seem to have a habit of going missing. Sparkplug a 200 lb African spurred tortoise got out of his fenced enclosure and wandered off down the road. A man spotted him and loaded him into  his truck and took his across the county to his 200 acre soybean farm where he released him. I suppose the man was afraid to leave him beside the road for fear of Sparkplug being run over, though once he got the 200 lb guy loaded it seems like he would have looked for his home. Everything turned out alright after the owners posted their missing pet on Facebook and neighbors informed his rescuer who then loaded him back up and drove him home.

Handy Dandy Chart

In a nod to the upcoming time change I found this sleep chart to help out those who are bothered by it,which would pretty much be everyone. We all know that not getting enough sleep can affect a person's health and productivity which is why I say don't change the damn time! But this so called sleep expert claims that we sleep in 90 minute cycles and to feel our best we need at least three of those cycle per night which doesn't add up for me,none the less here is the schedule based on what time you get up.

If you need to get up at 6am, you should go to bed at either 8.46pm, 10.16pm, 11.46pm or 1.16am.

If you need to get up at 6.30am, you should go to bed at either 9.16pm, 10.46pm, 12.16am or 1.46am.

If you need to get up at 7am, you should go to bed at either 9.46pm, 11.16pm, 12.46am or 2.16am.

If you need to get up at 7.30am, you should go to bed at either 10.16pm, 11.46pm, 1.16am or 2.46am.

Sound like a crock? Yeah,me too.

Are We There Yet?

November 3rd can't come soon enough, the last few days before an election are always the worst, endless campaign ads that seemingly run back to back with no content in between them. Then of course you have your looney tunes like this Florida man who stole a bulldozer to rid the area of Joe Biden signs along with fences and traffic signs, then claims he was too drunk to remember. He was charged with grand theft auto and trespassing, though there was no mention of DUI. I'm almost afraid to ask if things can get any crazier.

Careful What You Ask For

This woman and her brother's response to a probable perv request was nothing short of perfect. The woman had listed a bikini online when a potential buyer asked if she had a picture of it on. She was just going to ignore the request but her brother wanted to give the buyer what he wanted,so he donned the swimsuit and did a photo shoot. I'm guessing that was the last she heard from that buyer.

Missed the Memo

When did ugly cakes become a thing? Apparently I didn't receive notice that birthday cakes like the one in an earlier post are becoming the norm when ordering bakery cakes, okay maybe not the norm but still not what a person expects when they pay for a cake. Today's featured fiasco was supposed to be an Elsa cake from the movie Frozen but turned out more like a Picasso self portrait,or as another person, commented it looked like an baboon with blush. A cake like this could give the kid/kids nightmares!

That Stinks!

Maybe it's just me but this story about a skunk cracked me up,in fact it sounds like a joke though I'm sure the people involved didn't find it humorous. An Oklahoma Walmart store was evacuated when a skunk strolled into, wait for it...the shoe department! A wildlife wrangler was called and humanely trapped the animal, then took it to a vet to be examined before releasing it into the wild. The wrangler said it is pretty common and skunks can  easily  gain entry through spaces in the foundation. Too bad they're so smelly because they're actually pretty cute.

Frou Frou Dos

A creative dog groomer in Georgia not only does the basic grooming she also turns out works of art. She has bee practicing her craft for 17 years and holds several certificates verifying her expertise. She uses only non toxic products making her creations and often partners with humane/rescue groups to help get their charges adopted. This woman clearly has skill.

Special Underwear

No,not that kind of special underwear! I read about this politician several days ago and I keep going back to the same question, how did he conceal 4,500 pounds ($59,126 US) in his underwear? Either he had pouches sewn into his underwear or he had squirrel like butt cheeks that expanded as he filled them,or he could clench tight enough to hold that cash load in place, which seems doubtful given he doesn't look to be a body builder. The man in question is an ally of the Brazilian president, authorities first found money in a safe in his home, then they noticed a rectangular bulge in his pants when he turned to go to the bathroom, after asking three more times the man had finally drained his reserves. He still claims no wrongdoing but has been suspended from his position.

Spitting Image

What's the best thing about selfies? When they go wrong! Most of the time there is a mirror involved that catches something unintended that sometimes goes unnoticed but not always. Like this 22 year old woman who got dressed up on a Saturday night to post a picture on social media. It didn't take long for her friends to point out that the reflection of her lower leg in the mirror appeared to be a male appendage hanging below her hemline. If she'd just cropped the photo she would have been home free, but even after the photo fail was pointed out she had a sense of humor about it and left it up so others could have a laugh at her expense.

Using the Noodle

In case no one has figured it out I'm somewhat fascinated by the bizarre jobs I keep seeing and I wonder if they've always been on offer but I just didn't know about them? The latest example is Top Ramen is celebrating their 50th anniversary by looking for a "Chief Noodle Officer" to help test and develop new Ramen noodle recipes. The winner will receive $10,000,  a mentor-ship with the company's CEO and a 50 year supply of various Top Ramen products. Seriously? Does that stuff keep that long? and if so that doesn't seem like much of a selling point.

Cakewalk

The award for most unprofessional professional cake goes to...the disappearing Emma Beth. A woman hired the cake maker to make a specific cake for her brother's 30th birthday. He is an avid fisherman so she found a picture of the cake she wanted and paid $64 (half down). When she received the finished product not only was it nothing like what she had expected it was also covered with dog hairs. When she went to contact the baker she had deleted all her previous accounts. After contacting the proper authority about the woman, who had received previous complaints, they decided to do the only thing they could do which was have a good laugh.

Got Bacon?

This just might be a stroke of genius to get those holdouts who still aren't wearing masks to don the mask and join in the common cause to beat this virus into submission. I'm talking about a bacon scented mask being offered by Hormel Black Label Bacon. Of course it isn't as easy as just going out and buying a mask, you  have to enter to win the  breathable pork scented mask. The company will be donating one free meal to Feeding America for every contest entry up to 10,000 so that's a plus.
