Even though unicorns remain alive in imagination they are sadly extinct and the reason for that is European royalty in the Middle Ages used unicorn horns to test their food for poison so thanks to their paranoia the unicorn no longer exists. Actually what they were using at that time were more likely narwhal tusks which were believed to sweat or change color if poison was detected. Rhinoceros and walrus horns were also used and could cost 10 times their weight in gold.
