A lot of modern technology was actually invented long before the current era. The Fax machine, for instance was invented and patented in 1843, at that time the messages/images were sent over telegraph lines. Batteries have been around even longer since around 250 BCE in only a slightly different form. Central heating isn't exactly a new invention either, it dates back to 5000 BCE and was found in numerous neolithic sites in what is now North Korea. Later on it was also used by the Romans in underfloor heating. Nothing new to see here!
