Horseplay

In the 1920s well before Atlantic City became the gambling/entertainment mecca it is today it was known for daredevil type shows. One of the most popular shows featured horses walking up a ramp to be mounted at the end by a young woman then diving 60 feet into the water. Though the riders often sustained injuries including one young woman being blinded by opening her eyes at the wrong moment, the horses were never injured. It was the biggest draw on the Steel Pier. As recently as 2012 there were attempts to reinstate the high diving horses act but of course animal rights activists didn't allow it to get out of the planning stage.
