Ready For a Closeup?

Today's post is so cool that it's hot. It seems like at some point it wasn't possible to photograph the sun's surface but either I remember wrong or technology has made it happen without my knowledge. The photographs show the turbulent movement of the plasma amid what look like cells but each section is actually as big as the state of Texas. Of course the second,or maybe first thing noticed is that rather than looking like a person would imagine the surface of the sun to look like, it looks more like a caramelized snack of a highly addicting variety!
An image of the sun's surface in "unprecedented detail" released by the National Science Foundation.
