Give To Me Your Leather

In their latest anti-animal cruelty  campaign PETA has created a virtual fashion line they call "Urban Outraged" which shows examples of different products made from human skin,of course they didn't really make anything,they are only mock ups and rather grisly looking,especially the boots with the row of teeth around the base. They are trying to point out that animals have the same feelings as people so we shouldn't be using their skins to keep warm. Unless the whole world were to suddenly go vegan there in no point in shaming people for using every part of an animal that was used for food,plus leather is sustainable where artificially made leather involves the use of fossil fuels to process it. I also wonder if PETA did turn everyone away from meat would they then personify plants? 

 

Easing Back In

 After some time off I find I need to ease back into my daily posts kind of like a warm bath. With that thought in mind I present some shower thoughts. 

If you believe the earth is flat, do you also believe the sun and moon are flat? 

People say life is short even though it is the longest thing we will ever experience. 

The guy who invented trash bags literally sold everyone garbage. 

A lot of people confuse left and right but no one confuses up and down. 

Remember when teachers used to say,"You won't be walking around with a calculator in your pocket". Well look at us now.

Happy Holidays?

 Before I forget I'll be taking a few days off this week,or maybe most of the week we'll have to see on that. Now on with today's post...with the holiday season comes your typical scammers with no regard for ruining the holiday for others. This 49 year old UK woman saw a wonderful 6 foot tree advertised on Facebook. It even set itself up in 5 minutes using a remote control,the tree had it all,until it arrived looking like a branch of the tree she thought she was getting. She has yet to receive a refund from the company  (Uakie) and they have removed the trees from their website. Not to be a pessimist,but if it seems to good to be true it probably is,or should that be isn't? 

Flushed

 For the most part any job involving sewage would be considered a crappy job of course I don't really know that for a fact so it might not be as bad as it sounds but even if the pay is good it would be boring...or would it? A water company shared five of the weirdest things that have been flushed,those items include:false teeth ( I can see how that might happen given enough alcohol),glasses (same kind of deal as teeth),bed sheets????,underwear (oddly enough this one is maybe top of the list of most frequently flushed items),and money,not sure why anyone would flush money unless they had used it in place of toilet paper? The list is fairly explainable except the bed sheets,that couldn't possibly be an accident in fact who would have guessed sheets could indeed be flushed? I would think that they would plug up the toilet before the sheets ever went anywhere,but what do I know? 

Poo Power

 This almost feels like a dream since it's so obvious yet so ingenious. Farmers in the UK have partnered with battery experts to create AA rechargeable batteries made out of cow poop. They have been working to solve the methane problem created by  the cows by converting the gas into power to run their farms and now that they've accomplished that feat and still have methane to burn they are producing batteries that can power 1.2 million UK homes from a heard of 460,000 cows and still have fertilizer,milk and meat from those same animals. Truly a renewable resource. Hug a cow! 

Five Short Years

 I read in the local paper about a project called CETI that is using artificial intelligence (AI) to record the sounds whales make in order to translate them into something us mere humans can understand. They started in 2020 and hope to have results in five years. Not to be morbid but I hope I'm still alive and coherent enough to enjoy their findings. The whales must have some stories to tell and not all of them will be pleasing since humans nearly hunted them into oblivion. 

 

Doggy Big $$$$

 The phrase,"you lucky dog" is entirely appropriate for Gunther VI since he inherited his vast ($500 million) from his grandfather Gunther IV. The dogs wealth came about when a German countess left her beloved Gunther III a multi-million trust when she died in 1992. Since that time the Gunther lineage has led a jet setting lifestyle flying to different destinations on their private jet. His handlers recently decided it was time to sell the estate they had purchased from Madonna for a tidy profit. Gunther VI  has his own private chef who fixes the dog's meals which often consist of steak,veggies and rice. He also spreads his good fortune to other animals through the Gunther Rescue Foundation...what a good boy!  

Male Display

 Before I get to the meat of today's post I want everyone to consider that in nature it is usually the male who is more noticeable like Mallard ducks for instance the males display a much brighter plumage than the rather drab females. That is kind of what this metal worker was thinking when he decided to launch a men's lingerie line. The 56 year old man had been influenced by punk growing up and wasn't a fan of being told what to do or what to wear. He enjoyed seeing his wife in lingerie and wondered why men only had boxers or briefs to choose from so he launched Moot which offers a variety of men's undergarments to celebrate the male physique. 

Who Loves a Parade?

 It's nearly time for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade so I thought I would throw out a few facts about the event. The first Macy's parade was in 1924 and other than for missing 3 years during WWII the parade has been held every year, though last year it was televised only. Three and a half million people attend the parade which costs 12 million to produce. Ronald McDonald has appeared 17 times donning size 200 shoes,Snoopy has appeared in 40. Here are some concerning facts about the parade...each float uses 200 lbs of glitter (containing micro plastics) and each balloon uses 750 lbs of gas to inflate,I'm not sure of the environmental impact of the gas or even if there is harm done though the production on a whole seems like an exercise in excesses and it seems likely that the very people who might feel joy from watching a parade are probably unable to do so. 

Another Happy Birthday?

 Those of us with our birthdays behind us for the year can rest easy until next year,the rest of you will have to wait and see. I'd never heard of the birthday mortality rate before,but it's a real thing. Scientists studied 2.5 million deaths from 1969 to 2008 and from the data collected determined a person is more likely to die on their birthday than any other day,that includes suicides,natural causes,accidents and other causes. There are several possible reasons given for birthday deaths and they vary with the age of the celebrant. Historically this has also been noted,that list includes: William Shakespeare,Ingrid Bergman,Betty Friedan,George (Machine Gun Kelly)Barnes,Raphael and FDR.  

Big Butts Save

 Yes,you read that right,people with big butts (think Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen) have a greater chance of longevity. Oddly enough once you hear about it it makes sense. When the fat is in the gluteofemoral region it reduces the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Belly fat can wrap around the organs and release fatty acids that cause inflammation where butt and thigh fat is  distributed under the skin and acts like a sponge to soak up fatty acids plus thigh fat can be beneficial to metabolism and lower blood pressure. So my next thought is does that explain people getting butt fat added by artificial means? 

Golden Oldies

 Older people often are the subject of jokes when it comes to their sleeping habits but if people developed the right habits when they were younger they would find themselves in better health in their golden years. According to sleep experts the golden hours to fall asleep are between 10-11 pm and to wake up around 8 hours later. Once a person has established their circadian rhythm they should stick to it as closely as possible to achieve their best sleep and optimum health. Now another word about the DST... when the time moves an hour forward in the spring cardiac events increase by 24% because of stress due to the resetting of the bodies clock. 

Perfect Example

The cancel culture crap has really gotten out of hand,not only are people canceling other people who they don't even know and in most cases don't have the facts, they are also canceling things...Mr. Potato Head,Big Bird and now a gin. A member of the public made a complaint that the gin was purposely named to sound like a swear word (Fok Hing Gin),now granted it does sound like a swear word though the company that makes the gin said it was named in homage to a street in Hong Kong named Fuk Hing Lane. They even changed the letter "U" for and "O" to avoid offending anyone which obviously didn't help. I've got a great idea for all of the cancel folks out there,if something offends you there is no need to try to shut them down,just don't buy the product. Really it's that simple.  

Med Web

 Just as a reminder the word phobia means irrational fear,with that in mind I'd like to present some more useful spider info. Not only are spiders harmless for the most part they have their place in nature keeping the bug population in check,but wait there's more! You might not be here today if not for spiders. Perhaps a very distant relative of yours was saved by a spider in ancient times when spider webs were used as bandages and thought to have antiseptic/anti-fungal properties plus vitamin K which promotes clotting. So before you irrationally kill that scary spider remember it might be related to an ancient spider who saved your ancient relative. Live and let live!
