Okay the name given the 17 lb potato was actually just Doug and that name was decided on because they dug the extra large tuber, but I thought since they got 17 lbs from only digging once that the true name should be Doug Less. Doug's beginnings are somewhat of a mystery since the New Zealand couple who dug Doug never planted potatoes though they did use compost on their garden which could explain his parentage. Doug became a local celebrity when his folks built a cart to haul him around the neighborhood wearing a hat. They also contacted Guinness World Records since Doug easily out weighs the previous record holder though they haven't heard from them yet. Meanwhile Doug was starting to deteriorate as produce is known to do so they cleaned him up best as they could and placed him in their freezer. The eventual plans for Doug's future may involve him transitioning into vodka.
