After 16 months of police dog training it was decided that Gavel was too friendly to be a police dog so he was fired from the force. Before you start feeling bad for him I will tell you he landed an even better and probably more prestigious job. Throughout his training Gavel lived with the governor of Queensland so upon his dismissal from the force the governor awarded him the title of Vice-Regal Dog. Gavel is now in charge of greeting visitors and attending official ceremonies which is more fitting for his gregarious personality.
