The book I'm currently reading has the protagonist remembering idioms/cliches that his grandma had used when he was growing up and that got me to thinking about all the idioms surrounding the nose. Idioms aren't supposed to make sense but what would prompt someone to think of sayings like keeping your nose clean,brown nosing,poking your nose in someone's business and the ever popular nose to the grindstone? We all know what they mean because we grew up hearing them but that doesn't explain how they got started,of course somethings are better left unknown....such as why don't animals get hemorrhoids?
