Dry Stuff

The weather is certainly  not dry stuff right now but that's okay as the planet can use the moisture. Dry January has mixed claims as to when it started, the first reported sober January was in 1942 in Finland. The country asked for citizens to abstain from drinking for the month to save money and resources for the war and another bonus was the soldiers health improved. It took several decades but the movement slowly spread across Europe. Fast forward to the 2000s when people routinely made resolutions to take January off from drinking after overindulging on the holidays. In 2008 a man in New York gave up alcohol for January and both lost weight and felt more energy. Dry January really took off in 2013 with an estimated 4,000 people participating. The number shot up again in 2023 with around 175,000 taking off the wobbly boot for a month.
