Relatively Speaking

People with blue eyes all share a common ancestor who lived around 6,000-10,000 years ago. Researchers discovered something called a OAC2 gene which determines how much brown pigment a person has. People with blue eyes have a HERC2 gene which shuts off the OAC2 gene giving the bearer blue eyes all coming from one common ancestor who had a mutation causing them to have the HERC2 gene. As long as we are talking blue eyes it is a myth that all babies are born with blue eyes, not to mention that blue eyes are actually colorless and contain no blue pigment.
