Cool Cats

Every generation thinks they invented slang when most terms are simply recycled from the past. Today we will look at a few examples of phrase recycling like: dig it originated in 1930s jazz circles and means to feel something deep in your bones, groovy is usually associated with the 1960s but again goes further back to the 1920s jazz era and is thought to emerged from the grooves of vinyl records and the repetitive patterns of popular music, last we'll look at hipster which also goes back to the 1920s and referred to pushing the limits with style, music and way of life. Hipster comes from the slang term hep meaning up to date. The term was later associated with hip hugging pants of the 60s and again in the 90s with those educated Bohemian youth living in gentrified neighborhoods.
