Earlier today I heard about a 500 lb. body that caused the crematory to catch fire. That made me wonder about other problems with morbidly obese cremations,such as would they fit in a standard sized crematory? The answer is no,the standard size can accommodate up to a 300 lb. person,a corpse over that size has to be transferred to a facility with a larger chamber. Prices rise for the oversize cremation between $100-$500 depending on if a transfer is necessary plus $50 for every 100 lb. over 300 lbs. The reason for the extra charge is it takes longer to complete the procedure and poses safety issues for the equipment. Another good reason to stay active!
