As hybrid/electric car manufacturers scramble to find sounds to make their cars safer for pedestrians I can't help but wonder why they hadn't thought of that obvious safety issue before? Remember sleigh bells? they weren't just for holiday cheer, they were for warning pedestrians out of harms way. There were fines in most cities if your sleigh wasn't noisy enough and that was around 1797! I don't know about everyone else but the silence of the electric/hybrid cars is on the creepy side,or maybe I read too many of the wrong kind of books? What car makers are doing is installing speakers with different noises available in some makes. The standard sound will be a purring engine noise, but others are working on sounds more environmentally harmonious...maybe sleigh bells?
