Just when you think you've heard it all along comes some new weirdness. It has been discovered that herring communicate by farting. Why,you may be asking was anyone researching herring flatulence? Sweden was picking up sounds that they couldn't identify and suspected the noises might be coming from Russian submarines,nope,just your school of herring farting around. It isn't actually called farting,they refer to it as FRT (fast repetitive ticks) and it differs from actual farting in that the herring swallow air to enable the FRTs. The researchers said the sound they make is similar to a person blowing a high pitched raspberry. Who knew?
