Cliffhangers

It seems like every generation has a way of conveying to their children how tough their childhood was  and how easy  kids have it nowadays. The old "we had to walk to school in a foot of snow uphill both ways barefoot" comes to mind, but those days are over,or are they? A group of children from China's Atule'er village have to climb ladders made from vines 2,624 feet down a cliff to attend school, then climb back up at the end of the day. The climb takes 2 hours and the parents assist by using ropes to ensure the children's safety. Eight residents of the remote village have died making the climb though I'm not clear on if they were children or adults. I hope they don't have to bring a lot of heavy groceries and goods in via the vine ladders...and to think I complain about my stairs.

Scary experience: The journey up the terrifying cliff face takes around two hours and the students are accompanied by three adults
Treacherous trip: These young pupils have to carry heavy schoolbags while going through the perilous journey once every two weeks
Precarious journey:The children live in a terrifying 'cliff village', which is situated on the top of a 2,624-foot-tall peak in Zhaojue County
