Boozy Bantering

Today's post is somewhat morbid but since Halloween is coming up it should fit in nicely. Around 1828 medical advances relied on the study of dead bodies so it only follows that the need for those bodies brought about another occupation, grave snatchers. Once the task of digging up the body was complete they then needed to transport it to the buyer. The fastest way to achieve this was the train and to prevent the stench of a corpse they would put the body in a barrel and top it off with whiskey. When the body reached its destination and was removed from the barrel the diggers would then sell the "bottom of the barrel" also known as "rot gut" to make "stiff drinks".
