Holiday Merger

With a nod to Father's Day how about a little trivia about the holiday? Mother's Day became an official holiday first on May 9,1914 and though Father's Day was celebrated with roses for the dads, red for the living and white roses for the deceased, it didn't become official until 1972. Here comes the fun part...in the 1920s-30s activists pushed to combine the two holidays to form Parent's Day which they suggested be held the second Sunday in May. Their argument was that the separate holidays created a division of affection and respect and that if celebrated on the same day it would promote parents being loved and respected together as a unit. We all know how that turned out!
