A Show of Hands

Just like with fingerprints no two people smell alike due to various environment factors,  gender and genes which is known as our volatile organic compound or VOC. In a 2023 study of 30 men and 30 women the subjects grasped cotton balls in their hands for 10 minutes. Then the cotton balls were analyzed using gas chromatography and spectrometry to identify the VOC of the participants. Then using data analysis  they were  able to identify gender with 96.67% accuracy. What makes this study meaningful is that it's another tool in the diagnostic toolbox plus it could be helpful with forensic science as well, not to mention that we now know for sure that we can smell the proverbial rats!
