A person can't turn around this time of year without bumping into something pumpkin spice flavored which also includes beer and ale. The interesting part is that Pumpkin Spice Latte has taken the lead of the fall line up but it (PSL) has only been around since 2003 where as pumpkin beer/ale has been around longer than the US! Yes, since 1771 colonists were brewing with real pumpkin, not just pumpkin spices or flavoring but real pumpkin. The resourceful pioneers didn't have the luxury of choosing specific grains and crops so they got creative and used what was at hand like corn, apples and pumpkin. Now it seems the process has gone full circle to were people are willing to try what they think are new things that are actually older than our country.
